Developed by Male Doll and published by EastAsiaSoft, "Love Chemistry - Sibella's Formula" comes bouncing onto the screen as a mature Mega-Man clone. This pixelized action platformer featuring a busty red-headed chemistry teacher in a lab coat named Sibella who has taken it upon herself to concoct a love potion in syringe form with a gauntlet launcher decides to follow her antics as she embarks on a test run across campus against students and faculty alike. No one is safe from her lustful machinations.
As the titular Sibella (pun intended) you are armed with an infinite supply of her very own love potion number 9. As you make your way along the linear platforming path in faithful Mega-Man style you'll use your syringe blaster to take down robotic and human baddies as well as science experiments gone awry. By depleting enemy health bars you effectively put the enemy into a consenting love state where a finisher can be applied. This includes kissing, and sometimes even heavy petting. Platforming, itself, also poses a threat to limited health as pitfalls and hazards lie in wait among the aggressively attacking and respawning enemy population.
Whichever of the two difficulty settings you choose at the start, be it normal or hard, your pathway to each gated boss fight will be either easier or more difficult depending on your choice. The goal of each stage in the game is basically to make it past the several checkpoints with health, and lives intact utilizing your main shot type, and the additional shot types earned from the bosses at the end of each stage. Health can be restored via health capsules, and syringe shots via pink syringe refill capsules. Even extra lives in the form of Sibella's face can be obtained. Another nod to the Mega-Man series. Between start and finish you will also unlock gallery animations tied to the lewd finishers that are executed on each new enemy type. These can be viewed back at the main menu 'GALLERY' menu and can be played at different speeds, showcasing the game's impressive sprite work.
The Presentation ...
In regards to presentation the stages are more plain and simple in a 2D 8-bit fashion while the characters harbor a more 16-bit - 32-bit design with detailed articulation including Sibella's bouncing breasts. The accompanying soundtrack is very repetitive by contrast with a repeating synth/chiptune sound that does get old after a while. Volume, on three different sliders, can be adjusted to your liking at the main menu. Even the language can be changed via limited choices.
The Verdict ...
Love Chemistry is your basic reskinned Mega-Man clone through and through. As the title of my review suggests it is a "Mature Mega-Man Clone'. I say this, because there are suggestive themes in the form of things like bouncing breasts, and certain sexy finishers. It's nothing overtly sexual, but definitely suggestive. Challenge-wise the game isn't too difficult except at points where the game has enemies stationed in unavoidable paths, and in boss battles where the attack patterns are a bit unfair due to the lack of pause after each attack phase. Sometimes you have to brute force your way through and spam the shot button like there's no tomorrow hoping your health outlasts the boss's. It's these design flaws that keep the game from being perfect. Mind you, for an indie of this caliber it's still a reasonable deal though, if only for the trophies. Can't say the hentai gimmick has much lasting power due to annoying repetition, but it is what it is.
I recommend this particular.EastAsiaSoft indie to diehard Mega-Man fans, and PSN trophy hunters. The game doesn't take long to complete, and offers enough content for the asking price.
