Little Things PS5 Review: Tiny Hero, Massive Gravity-Defying Puzzles!

Little Things is a 2D puzzle-platformer developed and published by Dolores Entertainment (with involvement from JAGStudio) for the PS5. In this game, you play as a small creature named Whys (or Whis), embarking on a journey through surreal, dungeon-like environments to rescue your lost love, Kys (or Ky). The adventure emphasizes exploration, precise movement, and clever problem-solving in a minimalist, high-contrast world where every jump and mechanic shift matters.

Game features include striking minimalist visuals with high-contrast shapes and color zones that make hazards and interactables instantly readable. The game features responsive controls, instant retries after failure, and a retro-inspired soundtrack that keeps the momentum going during repeated attempts. It offers around 80 levels that gradually layer mechanics without overwhelming the player early on.

Gameplay mechanics center on platforming combined with puzzle elements. On of the key features is the gravity flip system, which lets you invert the world to walk on ceilings and access new paths. This combines with color-based abilities wherein dipping into different colors grants unique skills or alters environmental rules, such as making certain platforms appear or hazards disappear.

The three-star completion goals for each mapped location encourage mastery beyond simply finishing a level. Players earn stars by completing levels under certain conditions, such as achieving fast times, collecting hidden items, or executing flawless runs without deaths. This adds significant replayability, pushing skilled players to optimize routes, chain mechanics perfectly, and internalize level layouts for fluid execution.

Puzzle objectives, in general, revolve around reaching the exit of each single-screen or compact level by manipulating gravity, colors, and physics. Objectives require rethinking movement including combining flips and color changes to bypass obstacles, align platforms, or create temporary paths. Later levels stack these into complex sequences demanding both planning and execution, turning platforming into pure spatial puzzles performed at speed.

The Verdict ...

Little Things delivers a strong challenge through its demanding yet fair puzzles, with difficulty ramping up noticeably in the later stages to test precision and mastery. At a budget-friendly price, it offers excellent value for the depth and replayability provided by star goals and tight mechanics. The instant respawns keep frustration low, making the tough sections rewarding rather than punishing.

This game is best suited for fans of precision 2D platformers and puzzle games who enjoy methodical challenge, gravity-bending mechanics (think VVVVVV influences), and minimalist aesthetics. It's ideal for players who appreciate short, sharp sessions of problem-solving and improvement, rather than those seeking story-heavy or casual experiences. If you love honing skills through repetition, Little Things is a gem worth picking up.
